One of our little boys had the fantastic idea of digging for treasure in our sand tray. We added telescopes and magnifying glasses to make us in to real pirates and help with our search.
After we had collected some treasure we laid it out to inspect it with the magnifying glass. We even did some counting.
We have been busy practising our Christmas songs ready for our Christmas Concert next Friday morning.
We have loved making birthday cakes in Pre-Nursery and this role play helps us to use our experiences and find out more about our culture and customs, as well as helping us to begin to share and play with our friends.
We love being outside on chilly days, today we got wrapped up and used the paint brushes to paint with water outdoors. We enjoyed finding different surfaces to paint on and using different methods like dabbing and splatting.
“I’m writing, I’m writing” (2016.17.66) one boy tells me. He then goes on to say “snake” while he’s mark making and encourages me to join in saying “Manda do snake”. Then when he’s finished he paints over his marks and tells me “I’m wiping. Wiping it”.
This little girl enjoys using her counting skills in every activity she does. Independently she correctly touch counts using the numicon pieces and towards the end of her activity she was beginning to match the quantity with the correct numeral.
Some of our children in Pre-Nursery are very interested in numbers at the moment. We are enjoying counting, looking at numerals and singing number songs. We decided to go on a number hunt to see what numbers we could find out in the environment.
There are lots of numbers and everywhere, our favourite were the street signs? I wonder what numbers you would find if you went on a number hunt?
We have made dinosaur footprints! We had lots of fun and we’re interested in the differences between dinosaurs, recognising that some had spikes and some had long necks.
We also loved exploring the texture of the paint and even made some hand prints ourselves!
